We're so excited to be back on the road in our 'Renegade' Master after almost 15 months of being without our mobile mental health automobile.
Unfortunately, as part of a routine service in December 2022 our beloved van was mortally wounded by an errant mechanic who then, unfortunately, refused to take any responsibility for a mistake that was clearly his.
We were left scouring around for a new engine, not just sourcing one but saving for one too and it was October 2023 before we managed to find a) someone who could source an engine and b) was willing to do the work.
We were pretty blown away when Peter from Vauxhall Repair Centre (ironically, just 10 minutes from our home) got back to us to tell us he'd sourced an engine and would take on the work. After 10 months of knockbacks we were obviously prepared for another disappointment, so it really did feel like Christmas when we got that news,
Living without the van last year was horrible, every sunny day was met with a 'we could have been away today' and it actually got quite hard to even look at the poor old workhorse sitting outside the house. When you've had the good fortune to be able to take off across the country whenever it suits, it hits you quite hard when you can't enjoy that freedom anymore. I wouldn't say vanlife is addictive but for us it now seems a necessity!
Replacing the engine was far from straight forward, parts had to be sourced, even specialist tools had to be sourced and it was almost March by the time the patient was discharged. Sporting a new heart, courtesy of a Renault Motorhome.
Since we collected the van we've been so intent with giving it a bit of an upgrade, internally and externally, and of course getting back on the road ,we've been really lax about updating the website, but we're going to put that right as of now!
We're going to give the site an overhaul and we're planning to add a couple of features that we hope will make this wee corner of internet really useful and a bit entertaining to fellow campervanners, caravaners and motorhome-ers!
Oh, and if you see us out on the road (our new decals can't be missed) make sure to give us a toot and a wave!
Jo & Sean the happy Camper(vanner)s
